Privacy policy
Effective: October 24, 2026
In short: Inkoto has no ads and does not track you across other apps. To improve the app we record how it is used; you can turn this off on the Me tab. Your progress is backed up to a cloud account so it isn't lost when you change phones. The account starts out anonymous; you can sign in with Apple or email to use it on another device, and delete it at any time on the Me tab.
This policy explains what information the Inkoto app for iPhone (“the app”) uses.
What we collect
- Your learning progress: the name you type during setup, your goals, level, daily time and reminder time, lesson progress, review schedule, streak, saved sentences and display settings
- Account details: a random account ID; and if you sign in with email, your email address. With Sign in with Apple we receive the email Apple shares with us (which can be a private relay address) and, once, your first name
- Purchases: your subscription history (see Purchases)
- Usage: how you use the app and an approximate location worked out from your IP address (see Usage analytics)
We do not collect your contacts, precise location or advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Cloud backup and accounts
When you first open the app it creates an anonymous account and saves your progress both on your iPhone and in that account, so it can be restored. No email address or Apple Account is attached to the anonymous account. If you sign in with Apple or email, the progress on your iPhone is merged into that account and you can continue on another device or after reinstalling the app.
Accounts and progress are stored with Supabase, our database provider, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany; Supabase processes this data for us under its privacy policy. Account emails, such as the message that confirms your email address, are sent through Resend, our email provider.
You can delete your account at any time on the Me tab (Account → Delete account and data). This immediately deletes your account (its ID, your email address and, with Sign in with Apple, its link to your Apple Account) and the progress stored with it, and removes your progress from your iPhone. For Sign in with Apple accounts we also ask Apple to end Inkoto's access to your Apple Account. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; you cancel that in your App Store account settings.
Some records are held by other services and are not deleted automatically when you delete your account: usage events already sent to Amplitude stay there until their retention period ends, and purchase records stay with Apple and RevenueCat. To have these deleted as well, email support@hasanali.space. If you can, write before deleting your account, because afterwards we may be unable to tell which records were yours.
Signing out first saves your progress to your account, then removes it from your iPhone; it comes back when you sign in again. Anonymous accounts are deleted automatically, with their progress, once they are more than 90 days old and their progress has not changed for 90 days. If you still use the app on that iPhone, it creates a new anonymous account and backs up your progress again.
The words your widget shows are kept only on your device, in storage shared between the app and its widget.
Usage analytics
To find out which parts of the app work and where learners get stuck, the app sends usage events to Amplitude: for example when you open the app, which setup steps you see, when you start and finish a lesson or a review, and what you choose during setup and on the subscription screen. On the setup and subscription screens it also records where you tap: the screen's name and the position of the tap. Nothing shown on the screen is recorded.
These events are linked to your account ID and an identifier for your device (Apple's identifier for vendor), together with basic technical details such as the app version, device model, operating system and language. Amplitude also receives your IP address and uses it to estimate an approximate location (country, region and city). Amplitude processes this data for us, on servers in the United States, under its privacy policy; we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
Usage analytics is on by default. You can turn it off at any time on the Me tab (Privacy → “Help us improve the app”); from then on no events are sent.
Microphone and speech recognition
In pronunciation exercises the microphone is used only after you start speaking. Apple's speech recognition turns what you say into text, on your device where supported and otherwise on Apple's servers, where Apple's privacy policy applies. We do not keep or send any recordings. You can turn these permissions off in Settings at any time; the app works without speaking exercises.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details.
To check whether your subscription is active and to understand how the app is doing (for example, how many free trials turn into subscriptions), the app uses RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives your App Store purchase and subscription records, an ID (a random one, or your account ID once you sign in), and basic technical details such as the app version, device model, country and language. We do not use it for advertising. RevenueCat acts as our processor and keeps this data under its privacy policy.
If you installed Inkoto after tapping an Apple Ads ad on the App Store, the app asks Apple's AdServices framework for an attribution token and sends it to RevenueCat, which receives from Apple the campaign, ad group and keyword that led to the install. While usage analytics is on, the app also asks Apple for these campaign, ad group and keyword IDs itself and adds them to its usage analytics. We use this only to measure our own ad campaigns; it does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), is not combined with data from other companies, and is not used for tracking.
Notifications
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device; nothing is sent from a server.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information. Purchase records are handled as described above, for every user.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with its effective date.
